Of all the trends that have cropped (hehe) up over the past few years, the "mullet" dress has to be one of the most contested styles. With a cropped front, displaying the females most flattering asset (her kneecaps) I speculate over the longevity of this hemline.
The only label that could make me question my firmly held beliefs - Lover of course. I had the pleasure of trying on the gorgeous "Gothic" dress, but decided the small fortune I would have to spend on it could be someone else pleasure.

In the meantime, I'll have to settle for the Topshop version.

Natalie Portman - the ultimate boy/girl crush. I judge people on the basis of whether she is listed as one of their "boys want to date her, girls want to be her" celebs. She's had every boy I've ever dated vote locked down since her Star Wars role, but it wasn't until I read this interview with Jake Gyllenhaal that I fell in awe. Managing to exude femininity and substance in equal measures is not something which comes naturally to most, yet Portman does so with ease. (Taking the micky of herself in a Lonely Island Rap, now that's a level of infamy I most admire).

It seems obvious then that Natalie Portman would be the ideal embodiment of Dior's "Miss Dior" fragrance. Encapsulating so many elements that I find visually appealing - muted colour scheme, fresh flowers, immaculate eyeliner, bubble baths, ribbons, bows, dark shades, little black dresses, Paris - this clip has it all.

This year, Sofia Coppola paired up with the fashion house to enrapturing me again. I mean, a pink strapless dress paired with the perfect full pony tail, driving in a convertible? Totally stunning and evocative - chic effortless glamour and elegance.

Lace is the fabric I come back to time and time again, be it to oggle at or fill the spaces of my wardrobe. Designers artfully drap the fabric to complement form, using the space between to hint at (rather than reveal) what lies beneath.  The spectrum of lace runs from demure innocence to utter sex, making it the perfect choice no matter what girl I wake up as on any given day.

Valentino in white and blush.

Miranda Kerr in Lover perfection (with red lip to boot).

Elie Saab AKA designer-of-every-lust-worthy-gown I have ever dreamt about.

Dolce and Gabbana on the beach (very practical).

 The more affordable Topshop skirt.

Finally, you can't discuss lace without bridal connotations. Black bride versus White bride.

"All I know is that you're so nice
You're the nicest thing I've seen
I wish that we could give it a go
See if we could be something

I wish I was your favourite girl
I wish you thought I was the reason you are in the world
I wish my smile was your favourite kind of smile
I wish the way that I dressed was your favourite kind of style

I wish you couldn't figure me out
But you always wanna know what I was about
I wish you'd hold my hand, when I was upset
I wish you'd never forget, the look on my face when we first met

I wish you had a favourite beauty spot
That you loved secretly 'cause it was on a hidden bit that nobody else could see
Basically, I wish that you loved me
I wish that you needed me
I wish that you knew when I said two sugars, actually I meant three

I wish that without me your heart would break
I wish that without me you'd be spending the rest of your nights awake
I wish that without me you couldn't eat
I wish I was the last thing on your mind before you went to sleep

Look, all I know is that you're the nicest thing I've ever seen
And I wish that we could see if we could be something
Yeah I wish that we could see if we could be something "
- The Nicest Thing, Kate Nash

I've always felt an affiliation with Kate Nash. The opening bars of Foundations were my Nokia flip phone's ringtone for my final years of high school.
My year 5 creative writing teacher would be mildly dismayed that I've chosen to use the word "nice" in naming my blog as it's such an nondescript adjective. Hopefully I redeem myself by posting things that illicit more complementary responses than "nice".

Sorry for the virginal "deflowering" overtones.
